(one quarter)
College Prep
The Academy Symposium is a required course for every Academy student. Guest-speakers present live online lectures on a variety of subjects every month which are followed by three weeks of lively discussion of the topic.  Participation is mandatory.  Topics may range from Astronomy to Wild Horses of the West.  The Symposium is intended to provide opportunities to interact with fellow classmates, learn to express oneself through centered communication, learn how to discuss a topic and respectfully disagree, be comfortable with differences in opinion, to meet and listen to interesting guest-speakers, and to be exposed to topics a student might otherwise not know or learn about.
Academy Project (Online)
OEL66 5 credits - 18 weeks
(one semester)

College Prep
The Academy Project provides an opportunity to delve deeply into a subject of interest.  Most students will select and research a specific topic and create a product to share their findings.  Academy Project credits can also be used for authoring and/or illustrating a book, or pursuing a patent for a developed product, for example.  The possibilities are endless and we invite the student’s creativity and dreams.  The purpose of the Academy Project course is to support Academy students in developing their research skills before starting college, to provide a creative outlet for their interests beyond academics, and to help them produce a strong high-school resume that will strengthen their position in the college admissions process.
